Board meeting

The federal government is considering changes to appointments to government boards and organisations like the ABC, to make them more independent and merit-based. New polling suggests the change would be popular.

The Australian Institute has conducted some polling research that suggests 68% of Australians think appointments should be made from the recommendations of an independent selection panel, as is supposed to happen with the ABC.

Fewer than 20% think the government should be able to support whomever it likes.
