David Anderson

David Anderson, Managing Director of the ABC, gave the Keynote Address at the ABC Friends Victoria dinner on Friday 17 November. His address included strong defence of the ABC’s coverage of the Gaza war, some personal reflections on his career at the national broadcaster, and an enthusiastic endorsement of the ABC’s role and importance, and its plans for the future.

He generously took questions, including about his appearances before Senate Estimates, and the full house at the Angliss restaurant was enthusiastic in its applause and thanks.

Earlier in the dinner Pamela Creed, ABCFV Vice President, updated the participants on progress with our NewGen Initiative, particularly reporting on the “Pitch This” competition which is run by Swinburne University focussing on how to market ABC Friends to young people. Pam showed a video compilation of the proposals which the student teams had produced

Please don’t hesitate to contact Pam via the office if you want more information on the NewGen Initiative.

The dinner also introduced a quiz component for the first time. Jim Richardson, a member of the Communications Subcommittee, wrote a quiz on the history of the ABC for each table to complete during the evening. The prize for the winning table included a copy each of David Anderson’s book: Now More Than Ever: Australia’s ABC. If you would like to try the quiz yourself you can access it here and the answers can be found here. But be warned – many at the dinner found it quite challenging!

All in all, a very successful dinner and our thanks to all who facilitated it and all who participated – and especially to David Anderson!
