The Scott Trust, publisher of the Guardian stable of papers, including the Guardian Australia, has appointed Australian journalist and author Margaret Simons to its global board.

Since 1936, The Scott Trust has ensured the long-term, commercially sustainable future of the Guardian and its independent journalism.

Dr Margaret Simons is an award-winning journalist, author, and academic. She is Honorary Principal Fellow at the Centre for Advancing Journalism after previously working as its Director and she was a founding director of the Public Interest Journalism Initiative (PIJI).

She is also a founding director of the local journalism start-up *PS Media, which is working to create a digital local news platform that will serve and inform local communities.
