Echuca’s High St Beechworth Bakery will be the venue for the next gathering of ABC Friends Goulburn Valley.
The group, based in Shepparton, with at least one active Echuca member, is Victoria’s first new ABC Friends group for about a decade.
That “one active Echuca member”, Wilma Hills, and the group’s convenor, Robert McLean, will be at the Sunday, August 16, gathering.
“The get-together”, Mr McLean said, “will start at 1:30 pm and should last for about an hour”.
According to Mc McLean, the gatherings give people the chance to illustrate their support for the independent broadcaster, whether that be on radio or television.
The group was formed earlier this year when about 50 people gathered for a meeting at the Shepparton campus of La Trobe University to hear retired ABC Melbourne presenter, Jon Faine, talk about his experiences with the broadcaster.
Mr Faine’s presentation was followed with a lively and entertaining conversation between he and the ABC Statewide host, Nick Healey, who is based in Shepparton.
A recent similar meeting in Shepparton resulted in decisions for ABC Friends Goulburn Valley to meet with the Member for Nicholls, Sam Birrell, and to protest the idea of One Nation Leader, Pauline Hanson, that for many people the ABC should be subscription only.
There is no need to book, people just need to turn up, but those wanting further information should contact Robert McLean at [email protected].
