This year marks the 50th anniversary of ABC Friends.

Western Melbourne is celebrating with an exhibition at Footscray Library. Posters, photos, and campaign material will be on display from July 21 to August 20 showing the range of activities ABC Friends has undertaken – from its first rally in Melbourne in 1976 to the founding of our group in 2019.

In addition, ABC Friends National is marking the anniversary with a digital history on its website, showing how the movement grew from small beginnings to a nationwide supporter base of over 80,000. The website was produced by Dr Jennifer Bowen, convenor of the ABC Friends Inner Melbourne group and a former radio producer with the BBC World Service and Radio National. 

She will join us at Footscray Library on Wed 29 July at 2.30pm to launch the exhibition, tell the story of ABC Friends and introduce the multimedia website – meantime, you can visit it here.
