The ABC Open Day on Saturday, 26 July was a fantastic opportunity to connect with hundreds of people passionate about public broadcasting—and potentially about ABC Friends too.

Visitors queued down the street and around the block, undeterred by the threatening skies. Thankfully, the rain held off, and the atmosphere turned festive, with music, laughter, and curiosity in the air.

ABC Friends volunteers were out in force, handing out our brochure "Democracy Depends on a Strong ABC" to attendees keen to show their support. We were delighted to hear from so many people who value the ABC and take a strong interest in media independence.

A special thanks to Simon in the office and our wonderful volunteers from Bayside, Northern Melbourne, and Western Melbourne groups, who worked together seamlessly to distribute materials and represent ABC Friends with enthusiasm and professionalism.

ABC Friends volunteers Chris (Southern Bayside Group), Phil (Western Melbourne Group), Graham (SBG), Ivor (SBG) and Barbara (Northern Group).

The ABC’s own friendly volunteers helped guide visitors through the studios, while Kosta from Gardening Australia kept the crowd entertained with his signature warmth and wit.

It was a day that showcased not just the best of the ABC, but the power of community, teamwork, and shared values.
