The Future Leaders 2024 Writing Prize has been awarded, and a second prize was also awarded.

The winners were announced at the ABC Friends Victoria Annual Dinner on Friday 22 November by Helen Sykes, Director of Future Leaders.

This year The Writing Prize was awarded for the best writing (4,000-5,000 words) on the question:

What should be the roles and responsibilities of Australian media in reporting on and responding to the real-life impacts of climate change?

The topic is obviously of great relevance to the ABC and its role in providing accurate and impartial reporting on climate change.

The Prize is for Australians forty years and under, and is designed to encourage younger Australians to write about significant societal issues.

The winner received $10,000 and second prize winner $2,000. Their writing which won the prize is featured on www.writing.org.au.
