The Liberal Party has its eyes on 2 particular seats in this election campaign which it wants to win from the ALP – Chisholm and Dunkley. Both are held by margins deemed to be close enough to attract plenty of campaign resources, and neither of the current MPs have attracted significant national attention. Both seats will be an old-fashioned Labor vs Libs contest.
The seat of Chisholm is held by the ALP’s Carina Garland with a 3.3% margin, having won it from the Liberals in 2022. They want it back, so much so that Peter Dutton held his informal campaign launch in Chisholm a few weeks ago. Both major candidates have appeal, but the result will probably be determined by the youth vote.
The seat of Dunkley is held by the ALP’s Jodie Belyea with a 6.7% margin. Belyea replaced the popular (deceased) Peta Murphy and increased the margin at the 2022 election. The ALP probably thinks it is quite safe but the Libs like their chances. The result will probably be determined by people with young families.
ABC Friends will be campaigning in both of these seats, led by our Eastern Group in Chisholm and our Southern Bayside Group in Dunkley. Our social media campaign in these seats began today and will run up until 3 May.
