ABC Friends thinks there are six seats in Victoria which are close enough for candidate’s views on the ABC to make a difference to the result, and therefore a difference to the overall election result. ABC Friends has been campaigning in all six (and others). We have been asking candidates to respond the six-point ABCF Election Platform and we will compare their responses on a score card to help voters who want to “vote for the ABC”.
Goldstein & Kooyong
Two of the seats, Goldstein and Kooyong, are held by Independents. In each case the Liberals are trying to win back the seat, and the contest is close. The result in each case will make no difference to the number of ALP seats, but could make a major difference to both the strength of the cross bench and the Liberals chances of getting enough seats to form government.
Deakin & Wannon
Two of the seats, Deakin and Wannon, are held by Liberals. Both are threatened by challenges, in Wannon by an Independent and in Deakin by the ALP and an Independent. If the Liberals lose one or both of these two seats their path to government becomes much harder.
Chisholm & Dunkley
Two of the seats, Chisholm and Dunkley, are held by the ALP. The sitting members have not been very obvious during the last 3 years, and the Liberals are confident of winning Chisholm and hold high hopes in Dunkley. If they win neither they are unlikely to form government.
ABC Friends thinks the ABC can be a vote-deciding issue in these six electorates, because of the distinct policy differences between the major parties and Independents on the future of the ABC. We would welcome your assistance in bringing the importance of the ABC to the forefront of people’s thinking over the next two weeks.
